Writer's Block Syrah

Now, before you start thinking I'm a lush, let me just explain that I'm told I possess "a very good palate." This wine is inexpensive, available at Whole Foods, and the front label features a picture of the Bard himself. It opens with hints of coffee and berry (but NOT jammy!), moves forward with more fruit, subtle smoke and a hint of cocoa, and finishes with medium spice. Yum. The prose on the back label is a hilarious interpretation of what can happen when a writer finally becomes "unblocked!" (click on Bill)

The Hedgehog Review

"The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing." -Archilocus

So begins each edition of The Hedgehog Review, Critical Reflections on Contemporary Culture. This interdisciplinary journal is published three times per year by the Institute for Advanced Studies and Culture at the University of Virginia. Each issue focuses on a single subject or idea, with in-depth exploration of the central theme in articles, poetry, book reviews, essays and interviews by distinguished writers and scholars. From the inside cover: "By focusing attention from many vantage points on one topic, the journal strives for both the breadth of the fox and the depth of the hedgehog ... The Hedgehog Review poses hard questions, pursues knotty controversies, and pushes intellectual discussions beyond their current impasses." This journal is the perfect read for people like me who like to dive deep and hyper-focus! Three of my favorite editions are "Illness and Suffering" (Fall 2006), "Evil" (Summer 2000) and "Identity" (Fall 1999). Follow the link to find web versions of "Evil" and "Identity."

These are the ultimate running shoes! You'd never believe that a shoe so lightweight and springy could also be so supportive , but this one does it all. I can go for miles and miles ... RAVE!
